Her Voice Soars!

Perhaps we’re so accustomed to seeing wonderful choral repertoire from the pens of male composers that we seldom stop to wonder why. Wonder no more! For our Music Director, Dr. Brian Dehn, is turning that expectation on its head to present a program of music from women composers spanning the years from Hildegard de Bingen (1098 – 1179), writer, composer, philosopher, mystic and visionary to Carol King (b. 1942) wh began composing for the popular tastes of the 60s, and has rarely ever stopped. Much of her music is instantly recognizable. The  Library of Congress announced that King had been named the 2013 recipient of the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song – the first woman to receive the distinction, given to songwriters for a body of work.
